On March 9, 2017, the California State Senate unanimously passed legislation to celebrate California Wildlife Day. The annual celebration will take place on the Spring Equinox and is an opportunity for schools, communities, local governments, and organizations to celebrate California's unique and varied wildlife and wild lands.
Senator Bill Monning (D-Carmel) sponsored the legislation, recognizing the importance of environmental education and stewardship. The Carmel River Watershed Conservancy and the Audubon Society of California pioneered the efforts to realize California Wildlife Day.
The first state-wide celebration will be on the Spring Equinox on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
